Regional Transit Service Waives Fares amid Coronavirus

March 20, 2020

Starting Friday March 20th the Regional Transit Service will be temporarily waiving bus fares through April 19 or until Monroe County's state of emergency is lifted, whichever comes first.

RTS will offer credit for future trips to customers who recently purchased a weekly or monthly pass and can't complete their trips because of coronavirus. Details about the policy will be posted to the RTS website when available.

RTS is advising customers to limit their travel to essential trips only. Customers will also begin using the rear door to enter and exit the bus until further notice. Those who need to use the ramp because of mobility issues may signal the bus driver in order to do so. They encourage customers to maintain a distance of six feet between each other at all times.

RTS CEO Bill Carpenter said the efforts will help ensure the safety of customers and staff.

“The best way we can support that is to incorporate responsible social distancing practices while providing safe and sustainable public transportation that people can rely on to maintain access to critical services in the community," he said.
